Grate vid of Jimi playing acoustic! One Question though Did he just feel comfortable w/ RH guitar strung left? I Know w/ electric It would have been hard to find a LH model and I'm sure at any ole studio they prob wouldnt have a lefty just laying around but from the footage I've seen of him (I haven't seen a ton) he seems to be happy w/ right strung left. I see McCartney and he most always seemed to have a Lefty or at least one w/ a double pick guard.
Probably wasn't a problem w/ his ability. Just something I've always wondered. Did he ever cover the subj. in an Interveiw, with his money you'd thought he could have any model custom made. Was it a go w/ what I know sit.?

Jimi played a Gibson Flying V which was kind of an ambidextrous guitar other than the volume and tone knobs and jack. As far as the Stratocasters go, there was a benefit to the upside down nature of the guitar. by playing that way, the tremolo bar was threaded into the top of the bridge and could swing in an arc replicating his strumming motion. He could also "palm" the volume knob closest to the bridge when upside down which aided control of his feedback related stuff.

Some of the trem bar techniques Hendrix used couldn't be done any other way, so Stevie Ray Vaughan used a left handed trem bridge mounted upside down on his right handed "SRV" guitar. Kid genius, I didn't figure out the technique until I saw SRV use it some 15 years after Hendrix.

In the day, there weren't a lot of gear related magazines so interviews with Jimi about his guitars were few. What I recall is that he learned to play that way and it wasn't a real handicap for him to do so. As far as acoustics, the advent of cutaway bodies came after he was gone so the only thing at issue was having the pickguard upside down. The bridge and nut were easily swapped to accommodate switching the strings for correct placement.

Thanx Earl B. I figured technic had a lot t do w/ it.Seeing him w/ the flying V I imagined was his way of compensating for a lack of LH epuipment. Thanx for clearing that up it has always been a head scrather for me

But, did you know I have my own (?) drum solo:

I believe the footage is matched to Jimi's performance of Voodoo Child on the "Lulu Show" in 1969. Clearly, the audio is the album version from Electric Ladyland.

I stand accused of pushing a "faux" Jimi Hendrix on this group by our Prime Minister. I might need a "character witness" when it all goes down. The video is my evidence.

Oh hey SD--love the "real" videos, and for that matter, I love the other kind too, but it always bugs me a bit when you are looking at one of these vids of old performances and have to figure out if it is "real time" or faked...they do it with some of the DEAD ones I have seen...newreel types.

Keep up the good work, but beware of sedition...too many easy recruits for that around here.

Ten years after is one of my favs...don't know their stuff in terms of original productions well, but the following songs are just all time greats, though I don't know the exact titles, they should be recognizable:

Over the hill
Love to change the world
Here they come
On of these days

Here are mine from above, and all are on "A Space in Time":

One of these days
Here they come
I'd love to change the world
Over the hill

Love the lyrics:

Everywhere is freaks and hairies
Dykes and fairies, tell me where is sanity
Tax the rich, feed the poor
Till there are no rich no more?

I'd love to change the world
But I don't know what to do
So I'll leave it up to you

Population keeps on breeding
Nation bleeding, still more feeding economy
Life is funny, skies are sunny
Bees make honey, who needs money, Monopoly

I'd love to change the world
But I don't know what to do
So I'll leave it up to you

World pollution, there's no solution
Institution, electrocution
Just black and white, rich or poor
Them and us, stop the war

I'd love to change the world
But I don't know what to do
So I'll leave it up to you

These words you say :tell me where is sanity, tax the rich till ther are no rich no more ,I'd love to change the world but don't know what to do,so I'll leave it up to you deserve an answer :Sanity s when men accept to control their sexuality, until there is no more poverty !Everyone should have the right to be rich enough tolive in fine comfort, and not more .Big wealths should belong to nations ,not individuals incapable to respect a living planet, unfit to honor decent rights to animals and peoples .But men are mostly unwilling to do this the world over ,so I refuse to be burdened with any responsabilities about what's going on down here !

Weird , Hippie, that you should think goverments /mid control is the only way to go ;how about men deciding themselves presonnally to control their own sexuality ? why should it be such an impossible gig for them ,the world over ?You think all life is sacred ? Then why men do not respect the living ? Alow millions of kids to starve of hunger each year ? Simply becase men are not capable to control there selfish pleasures . About sex , money ,opinions ,indulging without caring about consequences , that's what a men's world is about here ,and nevermind sacred life to them in realities !

Samson was the strongest man long ago
No one could a beat him, as we all know
Until he clash with Deliah on top of the bed
She told them all the strength was in the hair of his head

You meet a girl at a pretty dance
Thinking that you would stand a chance
Take her home, thinking she’s alone
Open de door you find her husband home

I was treating a girl independently
She was making baby for me
When de baby born and I went to see
Eyes was blue it was not by me

Garden of Eden was very nice
Adam never work in Paradise
Eve meet snake, Paradise gone
She make Adam work from that day on

Methusaleh spent all his life in tears
Lived without a woman for 900 years
One day he decided to have some fun
The poor man never lived to see 900 and one

From an earlier post that is exactly what you suggest when you condider giving all the wealth to the nation (state)
We all were created through evolution or grand design with individual DNA excopt for the mitachodrial DNA that comes from your mother but the other is what makes us all unique some kind some mean, some smart, some not so, Its up to the individual right? I don't beleive that one apple should spoil the basket even 2 or 20 million The more love you contibute (including a respect for earth and others the more reward you will find.If you spew hate and invective you will undoubtiably receive it in return. It's simple really, It's called love,
I'm not going to into what my polotics are but they don't include giving my money to the stae (nation) And how do you suggest that "men ( i'm ASSuming you are but now by your comment maybe you aren't,or your in transition)should control their sexuality,we should all hve our nuts removed and become a eunuch for the state? a nuetuered worker drone? Thats all I have about this no reply nessasery.

I think it's clear there is a bit of "man hate" imbedded in those statements of skies...as they say, it takes two to tango, and sure, I am all for considering that men spend a bit too much time following their nut urges, but to jump from that to all world problems is naive, I think. On the other hand, I am all for letting someone else take over and solve world hunger and the rest...certainly males haven't been stellar in getting the job done. I'd note though, that much of the issue, IMHO, concerns good old "us vs them" issues (xenophobia), and after all, female lions and female hyaenas are equally concerned bout keep outsiders out, and insiders in...in some sense, you could argue that by controlling reproduction, ultimately, it's the females that run the show, so maybe they do deserve half the blame for the difficulties we find ourselves in, eh?

We can put a man on the moon, and we can split atoms but we can't solve human hunger. The farm land here is getting gobled up for urban sprawl which isn't bad because it gives the construction worker jobs to feed his family (jesus was a carpenter after all) barter and trade is the way of life.
I have a hard time thinking that men and women who worked hard did the right thing should not be allowed to own property.Taxes aren't all bad, people need to provide for defense and certian infastructure and schools even if you personally don't have any kids, because it behooves us to have a somewhat educated populace. Radical ideas I know.
Beleive me there are times when I lament the rich and curse my lack of money, But that doesn't mean that the state should control the wealth, after all I may get my crap together and strike it rich yet, and I'll begrudingly pay my taxes not hiding them offshore. I want to pay my share back.
As far as the man smart woman smarter I don't know societies have debated that since before the story of Adam and Eve ( I put the blame on both parties there.) I sort of fall into the yin and yang you need masculine and feminine, black and white good and bad rich and poor Do I beleive the cosmos is out of balence( I know you didn't ask that) my anwser is emphaticlly unfortunity yes,Can I do anything to help? Yes I can care for my kids pray for the ones that aren't (and mine as well of course) and try to give what I can even if it's one can of carrots (hate canned carrots) at a food drive. Maybe even plant a tree or two. Still feel like a jackass for letting my male emotions get the better of me (regarding skies ) theres a lot more ambiguity online than I'm used to.

Of course taxes should exist tohave schools, paved streets and nightlights .I am against profits made on the back of the poor sent to wars while dealers get rich selling bombs to nations .I bet by tomorrow you'll still find something to criticize ,no matter what I said or not !

Today I wouldn' go see a Johnny halliday concert even next door ,but I'd go for a Rolling Stones show ! I saw them once live in california and it really was high vibes trip I keep fine memories about . The stones choose not to do 3 concerts in a row at same place , no doubt that otherwise all tickets be sold out in a jiffy, they still being the world's most famous rock and roll band !

So, GC, the WWI sequence is unreal...with Hugh doing the recollection of all the brits, by nicknames, that "bought it" going over the top!

And, then, the ending of that one, with them doing the same is poignant.

Then, there is the discussion of "licking the Germans" with the all time great miscommunication response: "I wouldn't like a German if he was glazed in honey!" said to Darling, if I recall...

Being an individual who doesn't believe the myth that "chivalry went out w/ the machine gun" I still like to speak my mind as well, just ask my ex-wives and current girlfriend.
The nuetuered part almost hits to close to home w/ the recent vasectomy and all so I'm not going to comment on that anymore. (do you know about heebie-jeebies?)
I have been accused before of taking myself to seriously, but seriously are you serious?
Part of my problem is I have no recall for funny jokes and it makes me a bitter person,so I let this scene from Young Frankenstie say it for mehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZybFl_pfMk&;feature=related

Not sure if that was meant for me or skies, but I was just saying that song makes clear to me that it is not as easy as we would all hope it would be...not unlike Bob Dylan's My Back Pages (lies that life is black and white...I was so much older then...I'm younger than that now).

Hey H--just finally re-read your note: where do you get the interpretation about gov'mint control of pop growth in there? Or did you mean something else?

Hey H--absolutely no problem with us, and hope your lengthy explanation was a good exercise, and I enjoyed reading it, but I was in no way expecting such a response nor deserving of it as I quickly realized what had happened, as complicated as it was, cause you explained it well. Hope that makes sense! It was merely us crossing our posts while trying to respond to skies and not necessarily commenting on the song's meaning...

Yep, I think you are spot on with your interpretation of skies and her/his post on the song...I was thinking you were interpreting the song in your reply to me, along the lines as skies did--does that make sense? IE, that you were reading in the pop control aspect, but now see you were merely responding to skies having offered her/his explanation (per usual) as to what is wrong with the world, when in fact, I think the song does exactly what you (I think?), me and vapors think it does: leaves it open! IE, these are big questions, we can't necessarily answer, we think they are worth debating, and we leave it up to you (to paraphrase).

Cool.

Edit: ha! Finally looked at the sequence of posts, and had to make sure you understood that those that look like they are in response to you are not, unless they are...right? Meaning, my "...leave it up to you..." is defn intended for skies, not you...

We are totally cool.

I’ve wondered – seems like sometimes as a thread ages and grows the posting order can get wacky? Like a reply gets bumped lower or a newer post places earlier in the thread, but sometimes depends on how / where you link to view it. I’m learning, having fun and staying cool.

Getting more familiar with this vast IA place. Funny irony - on a forum search mission the other day I learned that the term vapors has been well used in the past. I hadn’t realized this before - I had used that name as editor of a home newspaper in junior high and when coming up with a handle it was the obvious choice to me. As my Dad was fond of saying, “Call me anything but late for dinner!” (apologies to jg and the memory of Jimi for using this thread)

Alot of this may be me speaking out of turn ,not sure if I can totally explain why I Inffered what I did from skies post,and why I replied to your return post to skies I'll explain in a moment First I'll try to recreate the conversation on my end;

WT ---> H64 ; Yea I love this 10years after album (WT posts lyrics to I'd love to chage the world)

H64--->WT ; Great here Timeless

H64--->WT; Oh yea Tax the rich etc. again timeless

Now to explain some background I had just finished complimenting and apologizing to skies concerning americana http://www.archive.org/iathreads/post-view.php?id=265351http:/
So skies interject on this thread concerning Tax the rich w/ ths
http://www.archive.org/iathreads/post-view.php?id=265451

The way I seen skies reponse ( granted not exacly directed at me) w/ his singling out the qoute I posted w/ what I thought was a copeout to socialism or worse communism with the qoutes "sanity is when men accept to control their sexuality until their is no more poverty" "everyone should have the right to be rich enough to live in fine comfort and no more" "Big wealth should not belong to nations, not individuals incapable of repect...,unfit to honor decent rights to animals and people" "but men are mostly unwilling to do this ,so I refused (sic?) to be burdened w/ any reponsibities about whats going down ther....."

SKIES: no reponibilities + Goverment keep all the money + men must accept control of their sexuality + everyone should have equal money and comfort "no more"

to me that sounds like goverment control.Maybe I'm thick in the head

Now why I replyed to you does have some faults w/ me sometimes "jumping the gun" some of it is PTSD but thats another story If you look at the order in the respones to our conversation regarding song lyrics was when I read your reply to Dan Russ w/ " (paraphrased) there are no easy anwses but I wont leave them up to you' Dan Russ replys "well said"
Now in my defense of the post is it appeared as if you were referencing my comment to skies
concering his failure to think man can't control his impules so therefore I don't want any reponsibities regarding the human race it sounded like a copeout when earlier he posted a very human feeling concerning the Dead and america.
when I read the thread I should have investgated who your comment was exactly directed at becase the why I posted to skies in the first place was because He wants certian parts of america like our music and culture but is unwilling to contribute anything but negative
My adding another negative to it surely did not make the equation a positive one. My apologies for my rude post back to you I did think your comment was directed my way regarding my humanities suggestion to skies. regarding my belief in procreation. Even if it was I had no right. So there it is as full a explanation as my typing will allow. I 'm still blaming it all on the Clevland Browns though, At heart I'm a non-confrontist but I still have MY ideals regardin the human race, And I'm also aware skies is entitled to his as well,He just seems to ME that he is mis guided in his aserrtions of America

So, is it cool like that?

Gee ,Hippie ! After reading your long speech , explanations and justifications ,totally off the wall away from anything i meant , it's no wonder americans ,and the rest of the world ,don't understand much each other !At least ,I bothered learning english ,and if you did same ,learning french ,would we have the least chance to ever understand each other, or would you still expect praises no matter what goes wrong with any of you here ?

Hey hippie – just a word on my experience – using specs from your turntable google around to check stylus/cartridge availability and prices online, and then if you are fortunate (as I was) to have an old hi-fi repair shop near you check them out to see what may be lying around in the parts drawers. Saved @ 75% that way and got free help installing it and balancing the tone arm.

Repair shops? I'm on my own on this one, I,ve done it before so I thinK,,,,, I can do it. I'm wondering if Crutchfeild still deals w/ them I haven't got to that yet But its approaching the top of the list quickly. It would be nice to find the mount and all but just a compatible stylus would probably get it done. I can probably also go to Radio Rhack and order it, I may go w/ a new one(turntable) that has USB cap. since my home Pioneer is about 20 years behind times. But I love this old Techneics, you can really dial it in. If I would upgrade to a digital pre-amp that would go a long ways in getting me further(theres that word) into the 21st century.

Quick side Question berfore I split (open and melt)...Do you know of any FREE video editting programs I've got movie maker w/ my WMP but cant seem to convert from JPG to MPEG or to shorten the Home vids I have. I mean I should be able to Take a 200MB vid and create 4 50MB 'mini-movies out of it? I"VE GOT BLISTERS ON MY FINGERS!!!&%$*&@
